Dear Congressperson Jeffries,
As a constituent of the 8th CD, I request that you publicly advocate for:
● The recognition of the right of the Palestinian people and their elected representatives to self- determination.
● The recognition of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state that includes Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
● The cessation of assaults and land expropriation on the West Bank.
● The removal of all Israeli military personnel from the Gaza Strip.
● International funding and support for the redevelopment and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
While the current, temporary ceasefire and ongoing negotiations presents the possibility of a "path to peace" there is as yet no agreement that will insure the free flow of humanitarian aid, a permanent end to Israeli occupation of Gaza or the recognition of Palestinian sovereignty. Going forward, I expect that you will monitor the situation and demand that the aspirations of the Palestinian people and especially those living in Gaza, are not violated.
I believe that the seven million Palestinians distributed between the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and Israel itself deserve the same rights of self-determination, political and religious freedom, and economic opportunities that are currently enjoyed by the seven million Jewish citizens of Israel.
I understand that NY8 Neighbors met with your policy advisor in late September and have still not had a formal response to their questions submitted to your office at that time.
I again call on you to speak out forcefully and unequivocally on behalf of the Palestinian people, who deserve the same rights as those enjoyed by Israelis and other democratic societies.
